We had a rather nice afternoon for the final match of the year. Due to the opening of the hunting season the turn out was a bit light but the competition was close none the less. As usual the 10/22 was the primary weapon of choice for all but one competitor, Jim Winelman was the only one to stray from the heard when he pulled out his Remington Nylon 66 and as you can see it did not let him down. As usual we shot 2 targets at 25 yards and 2 targets at 50 yards. Dennis DiFeo M.D.

Great get-together and great weather ( a 10 mph wind notwithstanding ). Finally a sunny day, (after 4 days of non-stop rain). All shooters arrived on time which allowed some time for chewing the fat before set-up time for the match. Can't get a group of shooters together without having to hear stories!! This was our 8th match of the year with only two to go before the annual medals are awarded. Not wanting to break the on-going trend, high shooting scores today in the Custom Category went to Rui Santiago with 232 points, high score in the Sporter Category went to Domingos Tavares with 208 points and in the Semi-Auto Category (shooting his 12 year old Ruger 10/22) went to Fritz Braun with 193 points.
It might be worthwhile mentioning at this point that most participants here use CBC ammo. CBC is manufactured locally and has got to be, without a doubt, one of the world's worst 22LR ammo. We're trying to get a licensed importation going for some Eley. Additionally, "X's" are kept on a separate sheet and only used as tie-breakers.
All shooters are anxiously waiting for the December 13th match, at which time summed high score trophies will be awarded in each of the 3 Categories.

November 8th Match- CCTN- Rio de Janeiro Brazil.
Hot day for shooting. This is supposed to be spring time in Rio. Could never tell though because temperatures have already been hitting the upper 90's. The final annual match will be held at CCTN on Dec 13th. All shooters are getting anxious as we all hope we'll have another sunny day on that date. High scores today in the 3 categories went to Luis Renato who shot a 234 (1-X) in the Custom Category, Domingos Tavares who shot a 214 in the Sporter Category and Fritz Braun who shot a 180 (1-X) in the Semi Auto Category. Last match of the year. Lousy weather but a good time was had by all. We added 3 new members to the USBR match- Lt. Col. Mason , Renato Jaqueira and Rogerio Amarante. We shot in the wind today. It kept gusting and that created lower scores than usual. Oh well winter time shooting is here. Won't be long and we will be shooting in the snow. You will notice that we have group on our sheet. We shoot a 5 shot group and the shooter that has the smallest group doesn't have to pay the next week to shoot. You shoot the group on your sighter targets and circle the one you want us to measure. It has been fun and challenging.

What shoot yesterday the 19th. We had Mike Saunders shoot a new world record for the .22 Plinker class. The old record is 234/2X and Mike shot a 234/4X. Good job Mike.
Mike is shooting a $189.00 Savage heavy barrel rifle with a 9 power scope. He has been shooting for a year and has tried all different .22 ammo's and I think he has found the right combination.
You will see that I have added World and Club records to our score sheet. As some of you do, we also keep club records. It gives a shooter a chance to hold a club record where he might never get a chance to hold a World record. You will also note that we have group scores. When you are shooting the match if you want you can put five rounds in one of the sight in target and we measure it and the shooter with the tightest group gets to shoot free the next week.
Since next week is Thanksgiving we are not going to have a shoot. Everyone enjoy the turkey day.

What a shoot on the 24th. It was 31 degrees and absolutely no wind. One of our shooters, Mike Saunders (retired Airline Pilot), shooting a $189.00 Savage .22 Mark II with a Tasco scope (9 power), and black synthetic stock, and Acura trigger shot a plinker score of 244/7x. What a beautiful target. I have attached several pictures. Oh he was using SK ammo, weighed and separated by rim thickness.
One picture is Mike holding his target and then a close up of the target, then the three shooters starting from the left side are Bud Lawry, Mike Saunders, and Paul Prather.
We had 10 shooters on the range shooting on the morning of Christmas eve.
I hope you all had a Merry Christmas and will have a Happy New Year.
We are looking forward to 2010 and see if we can't do some traveling to other matches in our area. We are starting our 3rd year shooting USBR at Clark Rifles, Inc. and I am really proud of our shooters. We have a great bunch of guys. New shooters come in and always comment to me how helpful our veteran shooters are to our new shooters.

We had a low turn out for the match. It was really cold, down in the 30's. But cold weather and all we still had some really nice scores. As I have mentioned before we shoot a group on any sighter target anytime during the match and the smallest group gets to shoot free the following week.

We had a great day for shooting, a little cool early and light wind but nothing bad. With the opening day of Deer Season we were a few shooters short but that is to be expected with shooters and hunters.
