The weather was almost perfect for our match. It was really cold, but there was almost no wind.

Had a new shooter come back and did really well considering scores shot last week.

We had six shooters. It is down a bit, but the holidays are probably keeping them doing other things. We will be shooting next week, but will not shoot on Christmas. It appears that we will shoot on New Years (pending hangovers).

It has been a great year for us at Clark Rifles, Inc. We finished our new club house and working on expanding our pistol range.

Had a nice morning for shooting. It was clear, cold and the wind was blowing. We are starting to get the East wind that blows through the Columbia Gorge and it can really blow.

We had one new shooter and one observer that came up to see what it is all about.

We are not shooting on Christmas so we will only have three matches this month. Last month we missed two days because of the weather.

We did not shoot on the November 20th. It was the last of hunting season and only 4 shooters showed up. The rain was coming down in buckets with the wind was blowing sideways. We have a lot more fun sitting in the range house and talking (well really BSing).

I don’t think we will be shooting on Thanksgiving, but a decision hasn’t been made yet.

Also this month we have been shooting USBR for one year. I can tell you that every one is really enjoying it. We really appreciate all the help we have gotten over this past year. Dennis some of us are going to try and make it down for one of your matches next year.

Happy Thanksgiving, to all of you and your families.

.22 Semi-auto Only USBR Match at EEGC

In this months episode of As The Powder Burns something a little different. Tired of the same old highly accurate super specialized custom built rifles designed to do nothing but hit the center of a ridiculously small target, the cast of As The Powder Burns decided to hold a match for the more common mans rifle, to thank the little people who have propelled our cast to stardom in the world of competition shooters everywhere. After much discussion they believed that there was nothing more common than the .22 semi-auto. Thus a match for .22 semi-auto only was set up. And what a match it was, you couldn't get any more common than the thirteen shooters who showed up for the match. While the popular 10/22 in its many forms was the predominate choice there was also a few other makers wares present, a Remington Nylon 66, a nice little Montgomery Wards and of all things a Smith and Wesson Model 41 pistol.

Now to keep things fair we did break things down into two classes, one for guns that came out of the box just as the maker intended, we called that the Factory class, and one for those who just can't seem to leave well enough alone and like to add all manner of extra parts and do dads to make their very own special paper perforator. We called that the Unlimited class.

The first two targets where shot at 25 yards and everyone felt pretty good about how things were going. Then we moved to 50 yards for the next two targets. That's when the moaning started, before a shot was even fired. Now at this point it must be made clear that a Match Director must exercise the utmost in discression when it comes to reporting scores to protect the innocent, and if any of our shooters were innocent this might present a problem however since space is limited we will just hit the high lights.

Factory

3 Bob Tews 187 1X Bob Tews 185 0X William Tapp 74 0X Dave Caffe 140 0X

Unlimited

* Leo Aregian used a S&W 41 pistol for the Factory Class.

There you have it. As everyone seemed to enjoy themselves despite all the moaning and whining we will hold more matches for the accuracy challenged next season.

What a day. Shot in the rain with the wind blowing. You would think that winter was on its way. Had only six shooters show up today, but we still had a nice match.

It was a perfect shooting day. Clouds and no wind. A couple of really nice scores were shot a 245 and a 246. We had eight shooters. We are in our hunting season and the shooters participation goes down.

We are looking at a cold winter of shooting.

Here are our scores for the match yesterday. It was cold and windy so the scores weren’t really good. Didn’t have a big turn out this week. It is our hunting season and a lot of our shooters are hunting. I have seen one of our shooters that ran the match last week so I did not have the scores to post. Will get them to you as soon as I get them.

Emerald Empire USBR

In todays episode of As The Powder Burns, pears, sleep deprivation and canine distress. Friday night as our Match Director loaded the truck with all the gear he and Mrs. Match Director would need to shoot the following days IR 50/50 and USBR matches he knew it would be a good day for shooting. The weather was going to be pleasant with winds of only 6 mph. and Mrs. Match Director was looking forward to trying her IR50/50 sporter that the Match Director had just finished putting a new barrel on. As they prepared to go to bed Mrs. Match director let the three dogs outside to perform their final formalities before getting a good nights sleep. After a few minutes two of the dogs returned ready to hit the sack, Mrs. M. stood at the back door waiting for Jake, her Labrador to return. After five more minutes of waiting Mrs. M. grabbed the flashlight and headed out to see what Jake was up to. She found him under the pear tree gulping down pears that had dropped from the tree as fast as he possibly could. Now Jakes motto is " if it might be food swallow it, if it's not food you can throw it up later". As a young pup Jake once snatched a KFC chicken leg off of the unattended plate of Mrs. M. and swallowed it in one gulp! Caught in the act Jake now sheepishly headed for the house waddling along with his stomach looking like he swallowed a basket ball. Once inside he wouldn't sit or lay down and kept pacing the floor. Mrs. M. stayed up with him taking him out to walk every 20 minutes or so hoping thing would pass. At 2:30 the Match Director was informed it was time to take Jake to the Emergency Vet. Hospital. After the appropriate poking, prodding, Xrays, ultrasound and bottle full of ten dollar each pills the Vet said "Probably to many pears, see the cashier on the way out". The Match Directors wallet properly drained they headed back home to get an hours nap before heading to the range. The Ir 50/50 match went quite well, Mrs. Ms sporter shot well and in the Unlimited class she shot a 250 21X, an out standing score. Next up USBR. Now it is no doubt due to the lack of sleep that Mrs. M. picked up the Match Directors Cooper IR 50 sporter as well as the precious supply of UM1 ammo to use in it and headed for the line. The Match Director thought about bringing this error to her attention but upon mature reflection and in consideration of the possible ramifications concerning the long drive home decided not to push his luck. Jim and Linda came down from Albany an Leo, who we haven't seen in years came over from the coast to shoot with us. Just in case your wondering, by the end of the day Jake had divested himself of pears and upon arriving home headed straight to the pear tree. Fortunately Mrs. Match Director caught up with him before he could get to his second pear and dragged him off.

Angelina Rifle & Pistol Club

Well we had a very good year this year.  For the last match of the year we had 16 shooters who shot 37 targets.  We also had 5 jrs. shooting this month.  Everyone seemed to have a good time and we had a couple of new shooters from Louisiana.  The new range is starting to show off its ability to come through with some good scores.  Here are the results for this match and the new Champions of 2008 season.

The four class were won by Plinker 30pts, Sporter 2 pts, Custom 11 pts and Unlimited by 18. You can see we had some good competition that came down to the last match. We tried to get Charles to choke but he came through under pressure. The door prizes were won by Emily, Charlie, Parker, Harry, Cecil, Charles and Jenna. Harry and Charlie won all the money cans. We sent Mitch down to start the hamburgers and he proceeded to burn most of them but we were pretty hungry so they were good. Since he burnt them this year he has to cook again next year. Thanks to everyone who shot with us this year and we hope to see everyone next February. It took a minimum of 30 more pts to win the overall this year. The Unlimited class was 41 pts higher than last years score, as you can tell we are learning how to shoot this new range.

Remember keep it in the 10.

Well the day started off with fog. When the fog cleared it was a beautiful day. We didn’t have a lot of shooters (5), but I assume that everyone is hunting. I shot the highest X count I have ever shot (11). Great day for shooting.
